The city of Saskatoon boasts a youthful vitality and cultural richness, home to the University of Saskatchewan. With the South Saskatchewan River winding through it, there are nine bridge that connect the east and west sides of the city. With a blend of modern and historical architecture and beautiful natural landscapes, Saskatoon has much to offer.
The available light, the backdrop or location, the wind, the chance of rain, the harsh direct sunlight, the flatness of grey skies, the time of day as well as the time of year, tests the photographer without a studio or studio lights. Despite the challenges of bad weather, time of day or seemingly lack lustre locations, Shannon feel her creativity peaks when challenged produce good work in poor conditions.
Follow Shannon and a of couple models from location to location to shoot in the available light. Learn how she uses each location, when and why a particular location works and what to do with the available light…. creating something beautiful every time.
(If it’s raining we will do some reflection photos in the puddles, what works and what doesn’t and then move indoors to various locations to master the available light in public spaces).
Shannon Brunner wants to live in a world filled with sailboats, good books that come bundled with a great French Bordeaux and a force field around her camera bag that repels cats and bad weather.
As a child portrait photographer, who has more than 30 years experience, Shannon has photographed almost every newborn and sticky-fingered toddler in her province and beyond. These same kids are graduating and getting married, which challenges her to expand her repertoire and admit to Father Time that she is getting old!
Shannon has won “Photographer of the Year” in Saskatchewan multiple times, achieved her Second Masters Bar as well as her Service to the Photographic Arts (SPA). Most recently, she was honoured with the elusive and prestigious PPOC Saskatchewan Fellowship Award. Despite these accolades, she is most proud of the volunteer photography of over a decade with “The Princess Shop”. The Princess Shop provides an enhanced graduation experience for young women in need.
Shannon hosts Travel Photography Workshops to such exotic locations as Morocco, the South of France, Iceland, Amalfi Coast, Croatia, Mexico and Newfoundland (yes, Newfoundland is exotic). She thinks that she has the best gig on the planet and great hair.
When she’s not teaching classes to help photography enthusiasts get a better grip on how to creatively use their cameras, you can find her paddling on the river, going to concerts, traveling the world and laughing at herself (especially about the hair comment).
